Trinidad and Tobago

The Republic of Trinidad is located close to the eastern end of the Caribbean coast of Venezuela and to the delta of the Orinoco river. It covers an area of 4 827 km2. Tobago is situated 35 km north-east of Trinidad and is only 301 km2.

Trinidad is traversed roughly from east to west by three ranges of hills, the Northern, Central and Southern Ranges. The island of Tobago has a central mountain mass that reaches an elevation of 550 m above sea level.

Trinidad and Tobago has a hot, humid climate. Temperatures range from 18° C to 33° C, averaging 26° C in Trinidad and slightly lower in Tobago. Annual rainfall ranges from 1 200 mm in south-western Trinidad to more than 2 500 mm in the mountains of Tobago. Rainfall is heaviest from June through December.
