Forest cover map

More than 150 indigenous timber species are present in the natural forests of Sri Lanka. Most of them are confined to the wet zone while the forests of the dry zone and of the drier parts of mountain zone contain fewer valuable species and have a lower stocking.

The above map is an extract from the Global Forest Cover map produced as part of FRA 2000. Please refer to FRA Working Paper 19 for a background to the production of the map.
