Forests and the forestry sector

Kuwait

Kuwait has very limited forest cover. The country has no natural forests, but it has around 5 000 hectares of tree plantations, representing0.3 percent of the total land area. A number of species have been planted, including Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Zizyphus spina-christi and Prosopis fracta. Date palms (Phoenix dactylifera) are also common. Most of Kuwait is semi-desert and the prevalent natural vegetation is spare scrub including species such as Acacia farnesiana and Haloxylon salicornicum. Kuwait has one national park, the Jal Az-Zor.

Kuwait does not have any large-scale forest industry and almost all wood and paper products are imported, including modest volumes of fuelwood. Small volumes of paper are re-exported.

Verified data are currently unavailable on the presence or significance of non-wood forest products in Kuwait.
