Forestry policies, institutions and programmes
LegislationArticle 10 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia requires the Government to protect the environment through rational use and sustainable management of natural resources. The Forest Code of Armenia (1994) and the law on Specially Protected Territories (1991) provide the main legislative framework for the protection and management of forest resources. Policies and strategy documents prepared include the Forest Sector Development Strategic Priorities Programme, the National Environmental Action Plan, the Forest Resource Assessment, the National Strategy on Sustainable Development, and the Natural Resource Management and Poverty Reduction.
Institutions
The Ministry of Nature Protection is primarily responsible for the development of forest policies. The Bioresources Management Agency as well as Hayantar are the main institutions within the ministry dealing with forest resources management.
