Intergovernmental discussions
A number of international initiatives to discuss and mobilize forest resources have taken place since the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED)which addressed the issue of innovative mechanisms to finance forestry development. Many of these initiatives fed into the Commission on Sustainable Development process. The United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) provides a forum for forestry policy development and dialogue at the international level. Discussions on forest finance were held during the Intergovernmental Panel of Forests (IPF) and the Intergovernmental Forum of Forests (IFF) and elsewhere within the United Nations system.
