Mandate

The African Timber Organization is a regional institution concerned with the production and commercialization of timber on a sustainable basis. African Timber Organization has developed its own initiatives in identifying the right criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management through various field tests at forest management largely located within the Congo Basin region and including: Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Zaire, Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana. Information on ATO criteria and indicators have been compiled and a set of five principles, two sub-principles, 28 criteria and 60 indicators have been identified and documented.
