PLANTATION GROWTH OF SOME WOOD SPECIES IN NORTHERN COTE D'IVOIRE
Dominique Louppe1 and N'Klo Ouattara2
Despite their intrinsic value, several indigenous forest species in the
Sudano-Sahelian area are scarcely known by local foresters. Since 1990, the Korhogo
base (in northern Côte d'Ivoire) for forestry research of the Département Foresterie
de l'Institut des Forêts (IDEFOR-DFO) has been setting up collections of more than
60 native species on large plots of land.
This paper presents the results five and a half years after the arboretum was
planted in 1990. The authors also consider the type of silvicultural treatment that should
be applied to some of the species planted.
