European Forest Week 2013
Santa Claus is European Forest Week Ambassador
Santa Claus has taken time off his busy schedule to accept the role of European Forest Week Ambassador. ‘We need to look after forests to ensure they are a gift that keeps on giving,’ he says. In this one minute spot, Santa Claus introduces children to his magical, forest-covered homeland and sends his message to Europe's children that forests are of vital importance and need to be taken good care of.
European Forest Week is being held from 9-13 December 2013 in parallel with Metsä 2013, the joint session of the ECE Timber Committee and the FAO European Forestry Commission, in Rovaniemi, Finland.
The Week will be celebrated with events in Rovaniemi and throughout Europe, highlighting the contribution of forests, forest products and services to a green economy. It will provide a unique communication and outreach opportunity to raise the visibility of the forest sector and the multiple services forests contribute to our daily lives. The European Forest Week will be made of forest-related celebrations organized by different public and private organizations throughout Europe. You can share your event and photos on this web platform and make use of the logos and web banners provided here. We also have videos and images to share. Registrations for in-country activities will be opened soon.
In-country activities may include celebrations of forests at the national and local levels; events by private or public organisations; competitions, exhibits, fairs, school activities; videos and publications. The organizers encourage wide participation of government officials from forestry and non-forest sectors as well as representatives of international, regional and subregional organizations that deal with forest-related issues in the region, including NGOs, the private sector, schools and academic institutions.
