Assessment of forest genetic resources

To assist countries in identifying their main issues and priorities in forest genetic resources, FAO supports the preparation of status assessment and action plans for forest genetic resources at the national and regional levels, through ecoregional workshops convened in collaboration with international, regional and national organizations. Documents prepared for these workshops on methodologies, country assessments and ecoregional status and action plans are posted on FAO's Web site. Updated data on species and institutions are compiled in the FAO World-Wide Information System on Forest Genetic Resources (REFORGEN). This effort will form the basis of a global evaluation of forest genetic diversity.
