FAO provides technical support to the UN-ISDR Wildland Fire Advisory Group, which together with GFMC launched a series of regional wildland fire networks. These networks provide technical support and enhance forest management capabilities in participating countries, support the exchange and dissemination of information, provide countries with information about identified gaps in legislation, policy and planning, and provide information for general fire awareness education. The first of these networks to be established was Afrifirenet, which actively engages sub-Saharan African countries and non-governmental organizations in policy, management and technology dialogue. Other networks have been launched for Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, North America, the Baltic countries, South and Central America, Australasia, the Mediterranean, the Balkancountries and Central Asia.
