Global Forest Resources Assessment
Guidance and feedback through expert consultations are key elements in the production and evaluation of FAO's global forest resources assessments.
FAO's Forest Resources Assessment programme (FRA) has received technical recommendations and support from international specialists in consultations organized by FAO, UNECE and Metla (the Finnish Forest Research Institute) at regular intervals over the last 20 years.
The first consultation on global forest resources assessments was held in 1987 and the following consultations took place in 1993, 1996, 2002 and 2006. These have all been held in the city of Kotka in Finland. The consultations are therefore popularly called Kotka I - V.
