Information note 7, 5 May 2004

Dear Colleagues,

This information note does not contain any additional technical information on FRA 2005.

Instead, I am pleased to announce to you that Mette Løyche Wilkie has been appointed as FAO¿s Senior Forestry Officer for the Global Forest Resources Assessment. As such, she will coordinate the work on the FRA 2005 update. Mette is an experienced international forester, having worked in all regions, including for the last six years with FAO on implementation of sustainable forest management. Besides field experience in forest resources assessment, forest conservation and forest management, she also brings solid knowledge on the international forest-related conventions and processes to the FRA team.

Mette arrives a critical time in the FRA 2005 work - at the start of the country reporting phase. This reinforcement will be of great help for the several regional meetings this year, and for the backstopping and support of your efforts to compile national reports to FRA 2005.

Also, as a consequence, this is my last information note in this National Correspondents forum - Mette will take over from the next one. I will, however, stay in the picture and be closely involved with the FRA work as it remains within the duties of my unit at FAO. I thank you for this phase of our collaboration, and look forward to the next. I can ensure you that I leave you in good hands - welcome Mette!
