Las repercusiones ambientales, sociales y económicas negativas de las actividades ilegales en el sector forestal han impulsado a varias organizaciones internacionales y no gubernamentales interesadas en las actividades forestales y en el comercio de los productos forestales a llevar a cabo estudios y a realizar iniciativas a nivel regional, nacional y mundial, con el objeto de contribuir a mejorar el cumplimiento de la legislación forestal en los países pertinentes.
