12 August 2004 - Work is currently underway to develop a mountain module in the Terrestrial Ecosystem Monitoring Sites (TEMS) database. The objective is to facilitate access to mountain relevant data and information from around the world. The Module includes networks and sites relevant to mountain issues and features a list of primary indicators, data holders and maps with specific information on mountains. more... The Module allows users to make queries on sites which are specific to mountain issues and will link global environmental and socio-economic data for mountain ecosystems. The module promises to be an invaluable tool for all those interested in and dedicated to mountain issues, from the scientific community, to policy makers, development organizations, NGOs, the media and the general public. TEMS is an international directory of sites and networks that carry out long-term terrestrial monitoring and research activities. The database has been administered by the Global Terrestrial Observing System (GTOS) in FAO since 1996 and now contains 1802 monitoring sites and 43 networks in 120 countries. | |
