Morocco Project UTF/MOR/037/ MOR: Support in the Implementation of National Forest Programme The current project stage is Phase II (in action since April-May 2010). The previous phase was implemented through UTF MOR/ 028/ MOR. The project consists of 15 components (volets/produits). “The project is being implemented in a close collaboration between FOE, EOM and LEGN in the Headquarters FAO representation Office in Morocco (FAOMA) and High Commissariat on Water, Forest and Fight against Desertification of Morocco ( HCEFLC- Haut Commissariat aux Eaux et Forêts et à la Lutte Contre la Désertification) In summary, the components are related to the following areas: - Communication strategy for HCEFLC (component 1)
- Information system management (components 2-5)
- Monitoring of forest health (component 6)
- Forest fires risks mapping and strategy (components 7 and 10)
- Forest and climate change; genetic resources (components 8-9)
- Archive management (component 11)
- Timber value chains for the cédre and pine (component 12)
- Organisation of touristic hunting (mainly legal aspects) (component 13)
- Continental fishing – harmonisation of laws (component 14)
- Cork oak - health, management, harvesting (component 15)
Recent project activities - forest health monitoring, including a new priority, that was not initially part of the project, namely: measures against eucalyptus psyllid. (In close collaboration Ms. Gillian Allard (FAO Forestry officer, forest health)
