Giovanni Munoz is an Agricultural Engineer specialized in Land and Water Management. He has over 20 years of professional experience in different aspects of agricultural water management including on-farm irrigation, crop water management and irrigation scheme management. During the last years he has worked on performance assessment and modernization of irrigation schemes in Central Asia. He joined FAO in 2001 and is currently working at the Investment Centre Division, based in Rome. He was the Lead Technical Officer for the project.

      Dear Chris,

      Please find here one of the reports of the projects below, where most of the detailed information is included.  It is the report of the Water Use and Farm Management Survey of the same project. This work was done by a regional institution (the Scientific Information Center of the Interstate Committee for Water Coordination).  I am afraid little of this can be found on the internet.

      The data are very clear:  the water use efficiency is very low for reasons found in the report and the same is true for the irrigation efficiencies and you have evidence of that also in the report.  Unfortunately, the situation of irrigated agriculture in Central Asia is rather complex and that is why we are seeking for thoughtful contributions. The analysis done as part of the Scenarios development was developed by a multidisciplinary team and nothing included in the scenarios was not discussed in detail with the group.

      Your further thoughts are most welcome.

      Здесь Вы найдете один из докладов по указанным ниже проектам, который включает большую часть подробной информации. Это доклад о водопользовании и управлении фермерскими хозяйствами того же проекта. Эта работа была выполнена региональным учреждением (Научно-информационный центр Межгосударственной координационной водохозяйственной комиссии). К сожалению, не многие из этих материалов можно найти в Интернете.

      Данные предельно ясны: эффективность водопользования является очень низкой по причинам, обозначенным в докладе, что также является  верным в отношении эффективности орошения, доказательства чего также имеются у Вас в докладе. К сожалению, ситуация с орошаемым земледелием в Центральной Азии является довольно сложной, в связи с чем, мы и находимся в поиске содержательных комментариев. Анализ, проведенный в рамках развития Сценариев, был разработан многопрофильной группой, и всё, что было включено в сценарии было подробно обсуждено с данной группой.
