Climate‐responsive Social Protection

In the years ahead, development efforts aiming at reducing vulnerability will increasingly have to factor in climate change, and social protection is no exception. This paper sets out the case for climate‐responsive social protection and proposes a framework with principles, design features, and functions that would help SP systems evolve in a climate‐responsive direction. The principles comprise climate‐aware planning; livelihood‐based pproaches that consider the full range of assets and institutions available to households and ommunities; and aiming for resilient ommunities by planning for the long term. Four design features that can help achieve this are: scalable and flexible programs that can ncrease coverage in response to climate isasters; climate‐responsive targeting systems; investments in livelihoods that build community and household resilience; and promotion of better climate risk management.

La culture des légumes révèle un caractère très important dans nos écoles primaires. Les légumes apportent un plus nutritionnel. Chez les enfants, le régime alimentaire adéquat est celui composé par des légumes. Ils sont presque tous riches en carotène et en vitamine C et également de fer, de calcium et d’autres minéraux. La carence en éléments minéraux tels que la vitamine A fréquente chez les enfants, pourrait être réduite par la consommation de feuilles vertes et d’autres légumes. Ce document comprend les techniques utilisées au maraîchage. Il est écrit dans un style simple en vue de permettre aux écoliers d'acquérir des connaissances et les techniques utilisées dans les travaux agricoles spécialement le maraîchage. Le document a été réalisé comme un outil de formation dans le cadre d'un projet d'urgence conduite en Centrafrique OSRO/CAF/501/SWE " Appui au développement des jardins potagers dans les écoles des zones les plus affectées par la crise"

Food Prices and Food Security in Trinidad and Tobago

Christian Romer Løvendal, Kristian Thor Jakobsen and Andrew Jacque, FAO/ESA, 2007 The economy of Trinidad and Tobago is booming, in particular as a consequence of increased energy production and the historical high oil prices. Whilst general inflation has remained relatively low for much of the present economic boom, substantial increases in retail food prices have been observed, in particular since 2005. This paper looks at the development of retail food prices, its causes, the potential impact thereof in terms of food security and possible policy options for addressing this. It concludes that whilst households with low income are the groups most affected by the food price increases and will continue to be so in the wake of increasing international prices, it is unlikely that the price increases in isolation will throw off Trinidad and Tobago’s path towards meeting the MDG 1 hunger target and bringing the share of undernourished people down to 6.5% by 2015. However, food security problems will remain, in particular related to overweight and obesity caused by unbalanced diets.
