Public-Private-Partnerships for agribusiness development - A review of international experiences

Public-private partnerships (PPPs) have emerged as one of the favoured mechanisms for agri-food systems development. However, there are many unanswered questions about the types of projects that may be suitably governed by PPPs, and their effectiveness in delivering on sustainable and inclusive agricultural development objectives.

What are the potential benefits and challenges of agri-PPPs? How inclusive are they of smallholder farmers? Do they deliver on much promised benefits of poverty reduction?

This publication investigates 70 PPP cases from 15 developing countries to better understand how PPPs for agri-food systems have been approached around the world. The main lessons are synthesized, and recommendations made on the public skills and institutions required to enable more effective partnerships with the private sector.
