Paulo Augusto Lourenço Dias Nunes (Ph.D.) is a senior economist with a solid science policy interface expertise.  On March 1, Dr Lourenço Dias Nunes joined the Climate, Biodiversity, Land and Water Department, holding 15+ years of experience in leading international, multidisciplinary teams that produce high-level, science-based policy-advice with respect to the management of world's natural resources, with particular focus on biodiversity and ecosystem services. Dr Lourenço Dias Nunes received his MSc and PhD in Economics from the Katholiek Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) and has 200+ publications, including the seminal manuscript “Economic Valuation of Biodiversity: Sense or Nonsense”. His latest books include Handbook on the Economics and Management for Sustainable Oceans (June 2017) and Handbook on the Economics of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (2014). Past positions include Global Coordinator of the UN Environment’s flagship project in ‘Mainstreaming Ecosystem Services for Macro-Economic Policy and Land Use Planning’; Coordinator of the Policy, Technical and Expert’s Committee at the World Bank (WAVES Global Partnership), and Professor at the Johns Hopkins University and Venice International University.
