The Chair delivered G77 & China joint statement on agenda item 8.1 in the 165th Session of FAO Council

On 2 December 2020, the third day of the 165th Session of FAO Council, Ambassador Andayani, the Chair of G77 & China - Rome Chapter, delivered a joint statement on behalf of the Group, on agenda item 8.1 Report of the 27th Session of the Committee on Agriculture.

The joint statement highlighted various important elements of the report of the session that was held back in 28 September - 2 October 2020, including:

First and foremost, welcoming the establishment of the Sub-Committee on livestock and endorses the terms of reference and rules of procedure of the Sub-Committee.

Second, noting the progress in the elaboration of the voluntary code of conduct for food loss and waste (FLW) reduction and the role it can play in contributing to FLW reduction globally.

Third, welcoming the Committee's discussion on the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on food security and nutrition, and the relevance of regional and international trade in ensuring access to food.

Fourth, expecting the terms of reference of an international platform for digital food and agriculture to create synergies between international organizations and stakeholders. 

Fifth, noting the global programme on sustainable dryland agriculture and the Global Soil Partnership.

And lastly, supporting the Committee's proposal on the draft conference resolutions for International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (2026), International Year of Date Palm (2027) and International Day of Plant Health (12 May).
