G77 & China - Rome Chapter Plenary Meeting on 19 November 2020
On 19 November 2020, Ambassador Esti Andayani, as the Chairperson of G77 & China - Rome Chapter, led the plenary meeting for the third time this year. The three and a half hour meeting discussed various issues, including the preparation for the upcoming FAO Council's 165th Session and the IFAD Executive Board Session and the 12th Replenishment Consultation; briefing from the Indonesian Government on the next Inter-Governmental Group session on Oilseeds, Oils, and Fats (IGG OFF); as well as the impacts of COVID-19 to food systems transformation in developing countries.
Various regions under the Group also exchanged their insights on the past RBA's meetings, such as the FAO regional conferences; the Constitution and Legal, as well as the Program and Finance Committees' meetings; the WFP Executive Board session; the implementation of the International Year of Plant Health 2020; and the preparation towards the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables 2021.
Although there are many agendas that the Rome Chapter is facing in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Group's commitment to advancing the common interest in various issues, through common positions, remains high. Other than the substantive issues, the Group is currently strengthening the Rome Chapter's Secretariat to get much-needed support in doing its work.
