FAO, IFAD, WFP and UN Women will demonstrate how UN agencies can work together more effectively and 'Deliver as One' to bring about a comprehensive UN system response to rural women's needs and aspirations.

UN Women, FAO, IFAD and WFP have agreed to spearhead a more comprehensive UN system response in support of rural women's economic empowerment through joint actions.

A seminar was held in FAO to introduce The Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI), a tool that was recently developed by USAID’s Bureau of Food security to track progress on women’s empowerment as a direct or indirect result of interventions under the US Government’s global hunger and food security initiative, Feed the Future.

FAO Director-General Graziano da Silva and Marcela Villarreal, Director, Gender, Equity and Rural Employment Division, present FAO's Policy on Gender Equality. The Policy provides FAO with a framework to guide its efforts to achieve gender equality in all its technical work and to assess results.

In an effort to raise awareness on the contribution of agricultural cooperatives to food security and poverty alleviation -- FAO, WFP and IFAD -- took part in the official launch of The International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) 2012 at UN headquarters in New York on 31 October 2011.
