Governing land for women and men

(FAO, 2013)

This technical guide aims to assist in the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security, by providing guidance that supports the Guidelines’ principle of gender equality in tenure governance.

The guide focuses on equity and on how land tenure can be governed in ways that address the different needs and priorities of women and men. It moves away from long-standing debates about gender equality in access to land, towards the mainstreaming of gender issues to achieve more gender-equitable participation in the processes and institutions that underlie all decision-making about land. 120 pp.

CEDAW - A tool for gender-sensitive agriculture and rural development policy and programme formulation

(FAO, 2013)

Agricultural policies need to address gender inequalities to ensure effective development interventions that can achieve positive and sustainable results in the lives of rural women, men, girls and boys. One powerful instrument for promoting the realization of the rights and potential of rural women and girls is the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). This publication provides guidance on the support and use of CEDAW in country level policy development and programming, to achieve equality between men and women in agriculture and rural development. 38 pp.

Mainstreaming Gender in Fisheries and Aquaculture

(FAO, 2013)

FAO's The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2012 highlighted gender mainstreaming as a key issue for the sector. These developments led the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Department to review progress in advancing gender equality in fisheries and aquaculture and to assess the extent to which policies, research and action projects are oriented towards gender equality and women's empowerment. With this aim, it conducted a stock-taking and planning exercise on mainstreaming gender in fisheries and aquaculture. 55 pp.
