Healthy Oceans for a Sustainable Future - UNCTAD/FAO Events in Geneva

20/03/2017

UNCTAD and FAO organized two parallel events, namely a “Briefing on the fisheries regulatory framework at multilateral level and preparations to the U.N. High-Level Oceans Conference 2017” and the “Oceans Forum on trade-related aspects of Sustainable Development Goal 14”, on 20-22 March 2017. Oceans are crucial to sustaining life on the planet. They provide a range of benefits for human well-being such as prosperity by providing food, jobs, habitats and biodiversity, and by moderating temperatures and capturing carbon. Audun Lem, Deputy-Director in the Fisheries and Aquaculture Department was the Head of the FAO delegation, which included experts on fish trade, subsidies and illegal fishing.
