Fanny Lu
“I accept with humility and gratitude this important recognition, because supporting FAO’s campaign against hunger and poverty has an important meaning for me. This nomination represents a great honour not only for me personally but also for my country, and strengthens even more my determination to collaborate with FAO in defence of all those who suffer the scourge of hunger and malnutrition”.
Fanny's debut album, Lágrimas Cálidas (Warm Tears), was released in 2006. The album was an instant hit in Latin America, where it spent five weeks at #1. The lead single "No Te Pido Flores" (I'm not Asking You for Flowers) also spent seven weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 Billboard Charts in Latin America, Colombia, Perú, Venezuela and Mexico. Fanny Lú was nominated for two Lo Nuestro Awards, and was awarded the Female Artist of the Year and Artist of the Year under the Tropical-genre categories. As a result of her ongoing success, Fanny Lú received six Latin Billboard Music Award nominations in 2008.
Fanny Lu is profoundly committed towards social and humanitarian issues. She has been active in promoting FAO and the World Food Day/TeleFood campaigns over the last four years particularly in Colombia and is now working on a new fundraising and awareness-raising project to support FAO in the Latin American region.
She has accepted to act as testimonial of the YUNGA (Youth and United Nations Global Alliance) initiative, to involve children and youth in environmental issues such as climate change and biodiversity.
In the light of this concrete commitment and support to FAO’s objectives and mission, Fanny Lu was nominated FAO Goodwill Ambassador on 16 October.
