Gina Lollobrigida
Gina Lollobrigida is widely lauded for a prolific acting career that has spanned more than seven decades.
She rose to international fame when she starred with Humphrey Bogart and Jennifer Jones in the Hollywood production Beat the Devil, following roles in Italian and French films. Lollobrigida was tagged "The most beautiful woman in the world" after co-starring in Beautiful But Dangerous, while a lead role with Rock Hudson in Come September confirmed her status.
At the same time, Lollobrigida has earned a reputation as a respected photojournalist, while also holding a passion for sculpting.
Her Italian family suffered hardship during and after the Second World War – a factor she cited when appointed an FAO Goodwill Ambassador in 1999: "I suffered a lot during my childhood and I have not forgotten my origins,” she said. “Now this formal title gives me an opportunity to play a first-hand role in the fight against world hunger.”
She has taken part in numerous events including World Food Days, during one of which she donated a sculpture, and has acted as patron of the Hunger Run.
Among other causes, Lollobrigida has also acted as a special representative for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). |
