Raúl González Blanco
Raúl is a footballing icon of both Spanish giants Real Madrid and of his national team.
He spent 16 years with Real, whom he also captained for over seven years, scoring 323 goals and winning a host of trophies. This included three Champions League titles, a tournament in which he holds the record as top scorer.
Raúl moved to German side Schalke 04 for two years, before signing with Qatari side Al Sadd. He captained Spain for four years and is a previous record goalscorer for his country.
Raúl was appointed an FAO Goodwill Ambassador in 2004. “Because the suffering of any human being diminishes all of us, it’s our responsibility to try to ease that suffering,” he said.
His contributions have included visiting field projects in Senegal and in Chad, the latter visit including an urgent appeal for funding amidst the food-security crisis in The Sahel. He has also supported the Professional Football Against Hunger campaign. |
