On 15 May 2009, FAO hosted a debating tournament between the French schools in Rome and Milan, within the framework of the World Food Day 2009 theme "Achieving food security in times of crisis". Each team of four students, had to prepare a debate with the students presenting their arguments and rebutting their opponents’ questions. Three motions had been picked for the debates,i.e. biofuels and food security , the use of GMOs for food production, and on population control and climate change. The Lycee Chateaubriand de Rome was selected as winner by an independent jury made up of experts from FAO and WFP who praised the talents and qualities shown by these young eco-citizens aged 16. The awards ceremony took place in the Austria Room at 14:00 hours in which occasion Mr. Hervé Lejeune, FAO Directeur de Cabinet , made a brief intervention and awarded the prizes.
