World Food Day/TeleFood in Nigeria

16 october 2008

Ministerial Press Briefing

A Ministerial Press Briefing was held on Thursday, 16 October 2008 at the Conference

Hall of the National Agricultural Show Ground, Nasarawa State. The Honourable Minister of Agriculture addressed the media houses, dignitaries, NGOs and the farmers associations on the importance of this year’s WFD event and drew attention to the WFD theme. The FAO Representative in Nigeria, Dr. Helder Muteia was also interviewed by members of the press during the occasion.

• 10 – 20 October: Media Coverage

The event was widely reported in the electronic media – shown on the Nigerian Television Authority’s (NTA) Network News, and given primetime coverage on the privately owned African Independent Television (AIT), Channels and Silverbird television stations. The event was also carried on News Spots by the Federal Radio

Corporation of Nigeria, (FRCN) and other privately owned Radio Stations such as Ray

Power and Hot FM. Press coverage included news features in the ThisDay, Daily Trust,

Leadership and Guardian newspapers.

The aim of providing effective and elaborate media coverage to the 2008 WFD is to emphasize the importance of the theme, World Food Security: the challenges of climate change and bioenergy. It is hoped that with such intensive

sensitization/advocacy through the media, adequate attention will be accorded the

theme by all stakeholders.
