Symposium on World Food Day 2009 On the occasion of the World Food Day on October 16, 2009, the University of Hohenheim and its Tropenzentrum in cooperation with the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences organises a symposium on world food issues.
This conference will strengthen the awareness in the wider public that the world food situation is not only a problem of hunger, but also jeopardizes social stability in many countries worldwide. We believe that science in dialogue with politics and the public can make an important contribution to sustainable solutions and that a high-ranking symposium offers a unique opportunity for such an exchange.
Two top-class speakers. Professor Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker, former Director of the Wuppertal Institute, and Dr. Patrick Webb former Chief of Nutrition for the UN World Food Programme) will give their key notes on the world food situation.
Then a panel discussion with all speakers and additional experts from politics, science, the private sector and development institutions will follow. The Justus-von-Liebig-Prize for world food security of the Eiselen Foundation will be awarded on the occasion of the event. |
