24 December 2011 Christmas concert with FAO Goodwill Ambassadors
21 December 2011, Rome, Italy - The XIX edition of the RAI DUE Concerto di Natale - Christmas Concert was held at the Auditorium Conciliazione in Rome, under the patronage of FAO. FAO Goodwill Ambassadors, singers Dionne Warwick, Anggun, Ronan Keating, Al Bano, and the Nazionale Cantanti, performed on a pro bono basis to increase FAO's visibility. The concert, with an awareness raising component for FAO, was broadcast in Eurovision by RAI Due on 24 December 2011 prime time. |

L’80% della popolazione di questa vasta area vive di agricoltura e pastorizia, ma la siccità rischia di piegare definitivamente le speranze di quasi 15 milioni di persone. Queste persone hanno bisogno di noi, per questo, in occasione delle celebrazioni per la giornata mondiale dell’alimentazione è nato Crescita, per uscire dall’emergenza e dare al corno d’Africa un futuro sostenibile. 19 August 2011 FAO Goodwill Ambassador Carl Lewis and the World Humanitarian Day 2011
World Humanitarian Day 2011 Video "If I could change", is dedicated to commemorating those who have given their lives in humanitarian service and acknowledging those who continue to bring assistance and relief to those in need. The video features, amongst others, Carl Lewis' mission to Haiti in June 2011 where he advocated the current FAO initiative “Fruit Trees for Haiti” and visited a number of FAO emergency and rehabilitation projects aimed to re-launch agricultural production in support of earthquake-affected rural families and vulnerable populations. |
20 May 2011 FAO debate school competition
On 20 May 2011, FAO hosted the forth edition of the debating tournament between the French and Italian schools in Rome, within the framework of the World Food Day 2010 theme "Food prices - From crisis to stability" and “ending hunger campaign”. Each team of four students prepared a debate presenting their arguments and rebutting their opponents’ questions: this House would limit meat consumption in order to ensure food security; this House believes that biofuels represent a threat to food security; this House believes that biofuels are a threat to forests and therefore increase global [...] |
11 November 2010 Football unites to tackle hunger
Footballers, referees and fans united this past weekend for a “European Match Day against Hunger” highlighting the plight of 925 million people in the world who do not have enough to eat.
Some 314 football clubs from 16 European leagues were involved in the event, which in turn promoted “The 1billionhungry project” – a petition drive by FAO and partners designed to pressure world leaders into addressing chronic hunger.
Players across Europe including World Cup-winning captain Iker Casillas and Argentine star Lionel Messi wore 1billionhungry T-shirts as did referees.

4 November 2010 Winning Student Stories Published
On Monday, June, 14, 2010, the Lycée Chateaubriand of Rome announced the winners of the schools's annual creative writing contest. Fifty-five junior-high aged students participated in the ecologically-themed science fiction contest organized by the Lycée Chateaubriand and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The stories were juried by an impartial group including Dr. Carlos Dews, Chair of the John Cabot University Department of English Language and Literature, Professor Elizabeth Geoghegan, adjunct professor of Creative Writing, and Mr. Mohamed Manssouri of the International Fund [...] |
