Abdul Wakil Khan Hall at Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation & Livestock (MAIL)
Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation & Livestock (MAIL) celebrated the 32nd observance of World Food Day on 17 October 2012 at Abdul Wakil Khan Conference Hall at MAIL’s compound. The ceremony started at 10:00am and ended at 12:30pm. The ceremony started with the recitation of the Holy Qurán and followed with the remarks from Technical Deputy Minister H.E Abdul Ghani Ghuriani and following, Mr. Ousmane Guindo, FAO Representative in Afghanistan read out message of the Director General of FAO on WFD 2012. Mr. Sultan Mahmood, DG of Water Resources Management, Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW) conveyed the message of H.E. Mohammad Ismail Minister of (MEW) and Mr. Louis Imbleau, Country Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) also delivered his speech on the theme of WFD 2012. Ten pioneer farmers were appreciated in the event through distribution of gift packages containing tools, seed and fertilizer which were provided by FAO’s Emergency and Rehabilitation Unit. An exhibition was also organized where all FAO projects show-cased their activities by displaying posters, banners and products at their respective stalls through photos, brochures, publications, researches, irrigation designs, seed laboratory and product samples.

About 200 persons attended the ceremony from various institutions, organizations and authorities such as H.E. Mr. Abdul Ghani Ghuriani, Deputy Minister of MAIL along with other officials of the MAIL, Mr. Sultan Mahmood DG of Water Resources Management, MEW accompanied with other senior staff of (MEW), Mr. Louis Imbleau, Country Director of the WFP, Parliamentarians, Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Women Affairs, UN Agencies, International Financial Organizations, Embassies, National and International NGOs, University, Media, Farmers and FAO staff. The ceremony ended by serving lunch to the participants. Press released was also distributed to the media which is annexed to this form along with the Invitation card and Agenda for the World Food Day 2012.
