General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean - GFCM

Reliable, comprehensive and timely data is crucial to the GFCM’s decision making process, based on scientific advice formulated by our relevant subsidiary bodies. Through existing recommendations, national reports, stock assessment forms and ad-hoc data calls, the GFCM collects data to inform all of our activities in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.

Consultation of public data

The GFCM has a wide variety of information on fisheries, fishing fleets, ports and illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. This information is collected through submissions from our CPCs in line with binding decisions made by the GFCM.

Data submissions to the GFCM

Data submissions are the backbone of the GFCM's work. Using the Data Collection Reference Framework (DCRF), the GFCM is able to support the identification and collection of fisheries-related data. This improves the formulation of sound scientific advice by relevant GFCM subsidiary bodies in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.
