High-level meeting on small-scale fisheries in the

Mediterranean and the Black Sea

DATE: 25-26 September 2018, VENUE: Malta, CONTACT: gfcm-secretariat@fao.org

The General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (GFCM) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is organizing a “High-level Meeting on Small-Scale Fisheries in the Mediterranean and Black Sea” (Malta, 25-26 September 2018). This event represents the culmination of work carried out in recent years, seeking to elicit political will and concrete action to support small-scale fisheries in the region.

The meeting will consist of both a technical meeting (25 September 2018) and a high-level meeting (26 September 2018). In recognizing that much progress has been made in recent years, the technical meeting will seek to highlight cases of best practice in the region, in line with the draft Regional Plan of Action for Small-Scale Fisheries in the Mediterranean and Black Sea (RPOA).

To this end, all stakeholders are invited to propose cases of best practice by submitting a completed template (English, French) via email to GFCM-Secretariat@fao.org by 1 May 2018. Proposals will be selected based on their relevance and with a view to ensuring balanced subregional representation.

Further details, including the meeting programme, logistical information and meeting registration will be available on this website shortly.
