EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Brainstorming meeting on the GFCM BlackSea4Fish project, including a session on scientific surveys at sea was held on 14 November 2016 in Burgas, Bulgaria. The meeting was attended by 28 experts of the GFCM contracting parties and cooperating non-contracting parties, the Bureau of the Working Group on the Black Sea (WGBS) and the GFCM Secretariat. The main objective of the meeting was to agree on the contents of a technical regional project to support the activities of the GFCM Working Group on the Black Sea, the BlackSea4Fish project. This project was endorsed by the Commission at its fortieth session (May 2016, Malta). The discussions held tackled following aspects: i) nature and objectives of the project; ii) participating countries; iii) funding; and iv) functioning. Participants agreed upon a proposal of activities for the first year of the project and decided to explore the possibility of establishing a subregional technical unit/office. An updated concept note containing the details of the BlackSea4Fish project was prepared and is included as an appendix to this report.
