The Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) is organizing a Webinar on analysis ready data, which is of interest to all satellite data users within the GFOI community and beyond. CEOS has been active in the simplification of earth observations data for users through the development of Analysis Ready Data (ARD) and specifications for it.

This appointment is the first of the #GFOI2020 webinar series organized in lieu of the GFOI 2020 Plenary, which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many satellite data users lack the expertise, infrastructure and internet bandwidth to efficiently and effectively access, preprocess, and use space-based data. Furthermore, even sophisticated users of satellite data typically invest significant efforts into data preparation. As the volume of space-based data grows, major obstacles still exist to use them for local, regional, and national decision-making.

At the request of countries and international organizations, CEOS has been working to facilitate access to and processing of satellite data into CEOS Analysis Ready Data for Land (CARD4L) products. CEOS efforts included working on a common definition, specifically for CEOS Analysis Ready Data for Land (CARD4L), as well as assessing datasets against these specifications.

CARD4L are satellite data that have been processed to a minimum set of requirements and organized into a form that allows immediate analysis with a minimum of additional user effort and interoperability both through time and with other datasets.

This webinar is being organized by CEOS as a means to strengthen the dialogue with the community of users on the topic of ARD, and to explore what interfaces and cooperative activities are needed to increase data use, choice and flexibility for users.
