The Global Forest Observations Initiative, together with its leading partner the World Bank and others, will launch its new knowledge platform OpenMRV on 22 June 2021 at 14:00 CEST.

OpenMRV is a central repository for the dissemination of training resources and other instructional materials for implementing forest emissions measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) procedures.

OpenMRV is an important addition to GFOI's family of platforms and guidance materials. This end-to-end suite of resources starts with the Methods and Guidance Documentation (MGD) and REDDcompass which provides guidance on the initial system design and development decisions. The soon to be released Registry of Tools will help to identify tools that can be used for specific steps within the MRV processes and OpenMRV will now provide detailed instructions on how to implement these tools and other resources.

OpenMRV will include a range of newly developed instructional materials for implementing specific steps within the MRV process, as well as working examples from countries such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other practical resources. These resources will be arranged in a user-friendly portal that presents the instructional materials according to the specific MRV process they address.

Following its launch, OpenMRV will be freely available for use by tropical countries to support establishment of their MRV procedures, as well as GFOI's development partners and other practitioners. The platform will be open and dynamic, with new resources able to be added by partners as they are developed and existing resources as they are identified.

OpenMRV has been developed by the World Bank as a contribution to GFOI. It disseminates the resource of various other GFOI partners and countries. An Advisory Group of GFOI partners and countries was also involved in its development of the platform to ensure it was fit for purpose as an open platform to be used by the GFOI community. The ongoing management of the platform will be overseen by the GFOI Leads Group, with day to day administration initially provided by the GFOI Office alongside the Initiative's other platforms and resources.
