The Group on Earth Observations (GEO), together with its flagship the Global Forest Observations Initiative (GFOI) are hosting a virtual workshop entitled Exploring new tools for monitoring land cover change to support GHG emissions estimates from 16 to 17 June 2021. The workshop will be supported by GFOI Lead partner the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the Task Force on National GHG Inventories of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-TFI).

This workshop will help identify tools that can be made available on the SEPAL platform for spatially explicit monitoring of land cover change that can support greenhouse gas accounting in the land sector.

Specific open-source software packages will be presented, which tropical countries can use to develop their National Forest Monitoring Systems (NFMS) and associated Measurement Reporting and Verification (MRV) procedures.

Please visit GEO website for further information about the workshop, including agenda and list of speakers.
