GFOI Plenary 2020

Rome, Italy, 10-13 March 2020

The annual GFOI Plenary aims to assemble the international community of forest monitoring support partners and implementing countries to discuss the key issues facing the sector and explore opportunities for collaboration. The theme for this year’s Plenary is Operational Systems, which will include on the following key topics institutional arrangements, connecting NFMS to forest policy and going beyond REDD+.

The Plenary will be held at the FAO Headquarters, Viale Terme di Caracalla 100 Rome, Italy. Get the map and more at this link.

Please note that participants are responsible for arranging their own accommodation, unless your travel is being sponsored by the GFOI Office.

Side events (deadline: 31 January 2020)

The GFOI Plenary 2020 will feature side-events during the main programme (10-12 March). These events will be hosted by participant organizations and framed around the overarching theme of Operational Systems and the key topics of institutional arrangements, connecting NFMS to forest policy and going beyond REDD+.

Registration (deadline: 31 January 2020)

Registration is mandatory to allow access to FAO Headquarters.

Please register at your earliest convenience and no later than Friday 31 January 2020.

The information requested is for security purposes to gain access to FAO Headquarters and will be treated with the strictest of confidence.

Please note that your registration can be updated here until 31 January 2020, but no registrations nor updates of the information submitted will be accepted after this date.


Participants can request a personalized invitation during the registration process or by contacting the GFOI Office.

Visa applications

All participants are responsible for ensuring they are allowed to enter Italy, and where necessary, obtain entry and transit visas in advance of travelling. If you are in need of a letter to accompany your visa application, please select this option when registering or contact the GFOI Office directly via email.


Participants will be provided with complimentary lunch as well as morning and afternoon coffee and snacks. Welcome drinks are planned for the evening of Tuesday 10 March and the official dinner will be held on Wednesday 11 March. Participants will be responsible for organizing and paying for all other meals and refreshments.
