Milan, Italy, 12 June 2015

It’s not every day you see unique GIAHS cultural show in Milan EXPO, but this week, visitors and exhibitors of the EXPO had enjoyed the cultural show, folk dances and music, the taste of history of agricultural civilization, the richness of China’s culture and agricultural heritage sites that are all featured in the China Pavilion “Land of Hope, Food of Life”.

Vice Premier Wang Yang, accompanied by Agriculture Minister Han Changfu, attended the celebration events of China Pavilion Day and visited the exhibition of Chinese agricultural heritages at the Milan Expo 2015 on June 8, 2015.

As a major event of the China Pavilion Day, the cultural show presents China’s designated GIAHS sites’ folk music "Grand Song" of the Dong ethnic group from Guizhou Province, the fish lantern dance portraying the rice-fish culture of Zhejiang Province, and a film viewing about the development and achievements of the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) in China. Also, the event was highlighted with ancient ballad from the Hani communities, well-known for their rice terrace system in Yunnan Province. All these performances reflected the fascinating history, glory and charm of China's agricultural civilization with a history over 5000 years.

“Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”, the Milan Expo 2015 highlights agriculture and food safety and explores new approaches to sufficient, quality and healthy food in a sustainable way while maintaining harmony between human beings and the nature. Following a theme of “Land of Hope, Food of Life”, the China Pavilion illustrates the unity of the nature and human, a concept integrating sustainable development and traditional farming civilization.
