Workshop: European GIAHS sites and partners to launch a transnational project
European Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems will organize a launching webinar event for a "Network of GIAHS territories" in Europe next 23 February, the idea is to test and implement a tourism-related development promoting the socio-economic development based on sustainable exploitation of their tourism resources as innovative solutions for reducing the extinction risks of Agricultural Heritage systems.
The European Union-funded project known as VALSIPAM (Valorisation of the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems in the Territorial Cooperation Program for the European Southwest - area – known in Spanish as SUDOE) is one of the first territorial cooperation projects that tackle the challenge of leveraging the opportunities and potential of Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems from an approach that goes beyond goods and products.
This approach seeks to add value for its transferability to other unique agricultural systems in the SUDOE space and to contribute to development due to its sustainability expected to outlast the span of the project
The webinar
The webinar invites the representatives of the Andalucia government, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Malaga University and the Foundation Andanatura to present and discuss the objectives, activities and expected outcomes of the VALSIPAM.
Network partners: 9 beneficiary partners from the European GIAHS sites and 14 associate partners from Italy, France, Portugal and Spain will also participate.
The Coordinator of FAO´s Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems Programme, Yoshihide Endo, will provide an overview of the GIAHS Programme, the GIAHS sites around the world and the impact GIAHS have on agriculture, ecosystems, market promotion and rural development.
