Argentina increases export taxes

18/12/2019,

On 14 December, the Government eliminated the export tax limit of ARS 4 per USD 1 of export value for a number of commodities, including wheat, maize, sorghum and barley, which was introduced in September 2018 (FPMA Food Policies). While the effective tax rate on exports used to vary with the value of the Argentine Peso, exports will now be charged a flat rate. The above-mentioned grains will be subject to a 12 percent tax with no cap. The Government also temporarily suspended the registration of exports to enable the new scheme of duties to be implemented. The measure, which follows the strong depreciation of the country’s currency, came into force with immediate effect with the publication of the Decree 37/2019 and aims to boost State revenues.
