The Government raised the MSP of paddy rice, the main “Kharif” crop, by 2.9 percent or INR 53 per quintal for both common (non-basmati) and A grade rice varieties. The MSP for common rice was set at INR 1 868 (USD 24.71) per quintal and the price for A grade rice at INR 1 888 (USD 24.97) per quintal. The MSP of maize were increased by 5.1 percent or INR 90 to INR 1 850 (USD 24.47) per quintal. The MSP for cotton, oilseeds, pulses and groundnuts were also raised. These are prices at which the Federal Government buys produce from farmers, with the aim to boost domestic production and ensure remunerative prices to farmers.
