Pakistan abolishes duty on imports of wheat

08/06/2020,

On 7 June 2020, the Government lifted the 60 percent regulatory duty on imports of wheat, in place since September 2016 (FPMA Food Policies) and allowed the import of wheat through the private sector without any limit restrictions. It also removed the additional 6 percent and 2 percent duties currently applicable to wheat imports. In addition, all restrictions on the inter-provincial movement of wheat and flour were removed with immediate effect and all check points established between the provinces removed. The measures aim to ensure enough domestic availabilities and follow a ban on wheat exports introduced in July 2019 (FPMA Food Policies) amid tight supplies and higher domestic prices.
