This web site contains latest information and analysis on domestic prices of basic foods mainly in developing countries, complementing FAO analysis on international markets. It provides early warning on high food prices at country level  that may negatively affect food security. All data used in the analysis can be found in the FPMA Tool.

  • International - Export prices of wheat increased in August in response to low production prospects in Europe and stronger buying interest
  • International - Export prices of rice also rose due to seasonally tight export availabilities and increasing African demand
  • Sudan - Prices of coarse grains continued to soar in August with seasonal patterns compounded by a further depreciation of the currency
  • Central America - Prices of beans declined sharply in August reflecting the beginning of the 2020 first season harvests
  • South America - The decline in the prices of rice spurred by the 2020 harvests continued into August in most countries of the subregion
  • Nigeria - Food prices increased steeply in July underpinned by a difficult macro-economic situation and commodity flow disruptions
