An article on the FAO/WHO GIFT platform has been published in the Proceedings of the Nutrition Society.
The article presents the role of FAO/WHO GIFT as a tool to better inform evidence-based policies for nutrition and food safety, especially in low and middle-income countries. It provides an overview of the current available outputs of the platform and presents the plans for the next steps of development of FAO/WHO GIFT. Finally, it also presents the synergy between FAO/WHO GIFT and other initiatives on dietary data and dietary exposure, emphasizing the key collaboration aspect of FAO/WHO GIFT.

FAO/WHO GIFT Webinars: We are growing!

A new round of participatory webinars will take place in March 2019 to walk users through the new features of the FAO/WHO GIFT platform. In the webinars, participants will be able to:
Share suggestions on new indicators which could be developed;
Learn about the plans for the further developments of the Platform;
Learn how to upload datasets and their metadata into the Platform.

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) held two webinars on the use of the FoodEx2 classification system in September and October 2018. FoodEx2 is a comprehensive food classification and description system aimed at covering the need to describe foods in a harmonized way. The system was first developed by EFSA to serve European countries, and has later been upgraded for a global use in collaboration with FAO and WHO. FAO/WHO GIFT uses FoodEx2 to harmonize the different food consumption datasets available in the platform, and to generate the ready-to-use indicators.

The FAO/WHO GIFT platform was presented to a wider audience in the UN Network for SUN webinar series in March 2018. This series of webinar presented the concepts underlying the development of FAO/WHO GIFT and guided participants through the use of the platform.
