An article on the FAO/WHO GIFT platform has been published in the Proceedings of the Nutrition Society. The article presents the role of FAO/WHO GIFT as a tool to better inform evidence-based policies for nutrition and food safety, especially in low and middle-income countries. It provides an overview of the current available outputs of the platform and presents the plans for the next steps of development of FAO/WHO GIFT. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) held two webinars on the use of the FoodEx2 classification system in September and October 2018. FoodEx2 is a comprehensive food classification and description system aimed at covering the need to describe foods in a harmonized way. The system was first developed by EFSA to serve European countries, and has later been upgraded for a global use in collaboration with FAO and WHO. The FAO/WHO GIFT platform was presented to a wider audience in the UN Network for SUN webinar series in March 2018. This series of webinar presented the concepts underlying the development of FAO/WHO GIFT and guided participants through the use of the platform.
