Video: What is the Global Record?

06/06/2014 FAO

The Global Record of Fishing Vessels Refrigerated Transport Vessels and Supply Vessels (Global Record) is a voluntary, phased and collaborative global initiative that provides reliable identification of vessels authorized to engage in fishing or fishing related activity. The main objective of the Global Record is to provide a powerful tool to prevent, deter and eradicate the Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing activities, making it difficult for vessels operating outside the law. In this interview, Alicia Mosteiro Cabanelas, MCS Operations Specialist/Global Record Technical Manager, Fishing Operations and Technology Branch of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), gives an overview of how FAO is developing the Global Record, the information it contains, and who will benefit the most from this global initiative.
