Global Soil Partnership

EC Info Point on the Voluntary Guidelines for Sustainable Soil Management

The Info Point organises conferences on European external cooperation.

Their aim is to tie in with topical events (visit to Brussels by a well-known figure in the field, International Days) by organising conferences that will engage our partners in development and stimulate debate and different points of view. The conferences are aimed both at the general public, the development community and the staff of the European institutions. Interaction and exchange are key objectives of these sessions.

Voluntary Guidelines for Sustainable Soil Management

Soils are an essential and non-renewable natural resource hosting goods and services which are vital to ecosystems and human life. As a major storehouse for carbon, they also have a fundamental role in regulating climate. However one third of global soils are moderately or highly degraded. The objective of this conference is to present the Voluntary Guidelines for Soil Sustainable Management (VGSSM), adopted by the 4th Global Soil Partnership (GSP) Plenary Assembly (Rome, 25 May 2016) and endorsed by the FAO Council.  The way to implement these Voluntary Guidelines in the context of EU cooperation and development activities and other EU policies was discussed during this EC Info Point.
