Inception workshop of the project “TCP/BHU/3703: strengthening Soil Laboratory facilities and performance to support evidence based decision making”

 

 

 

The inception workshop of the project “TCP/BHU/3703: strengthening Soil Laboratory facilities and performance to support evidence based decision making” was held on 15th January 2019 at the headquarters of the National Soil Services Centre in Thimpu, Bhutan. This project is funded by FAO through the Technical Cooperation Programme.

The objective of this project is to enhance the capacities (equipment and expertise) of the soil laboratory facilities of the soil and plant analytical laboratory and establishing four small laboratories in the field. 

The activities will include the procurement of soil laboratory equipment, both basic and advanced; the training of national staff by international experts; a tour to a state of the art soil laboratory abroad were training will be also provided and the enhancement of a quality control protocol. All these activities will be implemented under the framework of the Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN) and its Asian chapter SEALNET.

The inception workshop was chaired by national authorities, FAO representatives and local staff, including Ms Kinlay Tshering, Director of the Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture and Forest; Ms Karma Dorji, Programme Director of the National Soil Service Centre, Mr Chadho Henzin, Assistant FAO Representative in Bhutan, Mr Ronald Vargas Secretary of the Global Soil Partnership and Mr Jamyang Lekeyla, Project Coordinator. At the end of the workshop, the workplan and timeline were agreed, including roles and responsibilities.
