Latest updates from the international training on digital soil proprerty mapping and information delivery

The International Training on Digital Soil Property Mapping and Information Delivery organized by the Sustainable Management of Agricultural Research and Technology Dissemination (SMARTD)  of the Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Research and Development (IAARD) was held on 22 - 26 April 2019 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia to train 46 national staff on software, data preparation and modelling of soil properties.

During the first day of the training, several guest speakers presented on the current status on the topics of soil data capturing using sensors, digital soil mapping, information systems for spatial information delivery. Two representatives of the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) were invited to highlight the general activities and scope of the partnership with a special emphasis on the activities related to the quality and availability of soil data and information.

During the second part of the International Training, the GSP instructors provided, as part of its capacity development and improvement program, a 4-day hands-on training on digital soil property mapping and information delivery. The training was attended by 46 researchers, representing several regional branches of the Indonesian Assessment institute of Agricultural Technology and the Indonesian Center for Agricultural Land Resource Research and Development.

The participants were successfully trained on data preparation, modelling, validation and data delivery with the objective to not only produce soil property maps, but also critically assess their quality and finally deliver a product with scientifically sound accompanying information.
